Wednesday

Last night I took trampoline aerobics (airobics, natch.) Everyone gets their own square section of a giant trampoline quilt. There was this teenage boy with a long shaggy bowl cut who reminded me of someone, but I just couldn’t place who.

After 20 minutes my feet and ankles were hurting so bad that I had to stop and take off my shoes and I wondered if I could make it through the whole class. It was hard! And then the angels started singing. OK, a Rick Springfield song came on and not “Jesse’s Girl” either! The one with the line “you didn’t know how to love a man” and then zing! I remembered who the kid reminded me of. Sean Stone! The guy who told me that exact thing when he was breaking up with my 16 year old self. And you know what? It was true. I really didn’t.

Bugs!

Another “charm” of my ultrahip apartment is the bees’ nest in the wall. I forget about it over the winter, but remembered suddenly last night.

In the middle of the night, I got up to pee. When I got back to bed, I rolled on in and unfortunately on an asshole bee who stung me on the leg. I have had multiple stings since I have lived here and they don’t usually hurt for long, but this one throbbed until I went downstairs and put some ice on it. I guess that putting meat tenderizer (isn’t that MSG?) on it is supposed to help, but like I have that lying around. This morning I squeezed it and now I feel toxic.

Also this morning there was a mayfly hanging out in the toilet bowl. I know that they are harmless, but still. Move on mosquito hawk, that’s my sittin’ place!

thursday

My apartment looks so inviting. I cleaned for the party and then only had to pick up bottles and cans, wipe, sweep and mop and it was clean again for the parents.

Part of the “charm” of living in an old un-insulated building is the dust that blows in through the walls and doors. I am not the cleanest girl on the block so I blamed myself for the state of my floors until my neurotically clean upstairs neighbor mentioned the filth of the whole building. I took her on her word and promptly stopped beating myself up. I stopped mopping too. For my parent’s visit I decided to pull a mopping two-fer. The second time really made a difference. Right then and there I vowed to mop until the water comes out clear. Of course, it won’t happen, I will give an honest effort to keeping the place tidy.

Wednesday

What excites me most about owning my own house with a specific house in mind.

I ironed my skirt this morning. Who irons corduroy? It’s stupid! It just needs a wash. I have considered shelling out the thousand bones for a Miele, but that seems wasteful even for the most energy and water efficient machine. I found, after trolling craigslist, I can get a used high efficiency washer for 350$ or cheaper.

A yard for the dog, sitting sadly inside right now. What if she could go in and out, in and out as she pleased? No more rushing home after work to let her pee.

Oh dear lord do I miss taking a bath whenever I want.

I have concerns also. Can it fit all my clothes? Where do I put the tv? What will break and send me into a deeply remorseful state?

Sell me this house, bank!

Tuesday

My parents are coming tomorrow morning. I am not sure what we will do. Trader Joe’s and Ikea are exciting to them. Costco to me, I am fascinated by a store that I am not allowed in.

Food is a bit of a rattlesnake. My taste buds have traveled far from Montana. Now I dress my salads with olive oil and sea salt and I consider European style frozen yogurt a yummy dessert. Rarely do I eat processed food. Where will the middle ground be? They do enjoy something ethnic, but not too foreign, maybe Riksha or Queen of Sheba? Indian is too spicy and Thai has to be mild. Yawn.

There are 2 things that my mom says that drive me crazy. One is that I don’t cook and the other is that we have the same body. Neither is true. This visit I may not bite my tongue.

I have decided that I will try to update every day and each entry will have exactly 150 words.

The goal is learning to self edit.

It was a slow weekend. I tried for a Capitol Dawg (vegan) but was denied. My Sunday horoscope said that I would run into an old friend, but was denied that as well. I went to the groomer and my nails (up and down) are as clean as they get.

Record Day was a bit of a miss as well. I missed every band, but not a free cupcake. Later I showed a talent for missing the ball at tennis. But I did fine at snowcone eating. I have some talents.

Knit on a scarf for a friend and shorted some jeans for myself.

Dreamt about my future bungalow.

Sat on the floor and read comics.

Did not at all clean house.

Carrot salad.
